So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News. 9 For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.– 2 Timothy 1:8-9 (NLT)
We’re not supposed to live in the attitude of “Okay, my eternal future is sealed, I’m good.” We’re also called to bring Christ and his love to others – some of whom will join us in the journey! We’re equipped to carry this out in each of our unique ways, spheres of influence, and our time in history when God saw fit to knit each of us together in our mothers’ wombs.
So, what is the significance of my place in history? What’s yours? What doors lay ahead of us, begging us to walk through and take our place in His great story?
…“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”– 1 Corinthians 1:9
“God’s Little Red Schoolhouse” has been an important theme for me in recent years. I think it shouts back to a time when students enjoyed not only personal instruction, but deep concern for each one’s life – where they were in the journey to maturity, insight and wisdom as to where they could go with their gifts, receiving personal instruction along the way.
Our Heavenly Father offers this to each of us, both personally in our intimate time with Him, and collectively as we walk out this journey of life together as the Body of Christ. I think if we “zoom out” and look with the eyes of heaven, we’ll see how gigantically significant each of our gifts, talents, our lives lived seriously in His extravagant love, really are in our generation!
When the soil of our hearts is prepared, the seeds sown will spring forth. Jesus is doing amazing things in his Body, the Church. What field has he planted you in? To look at this from another angle, what is your heart ripe for, as far as what the Lord would have you invest in? This is a matter that will only be revealed in your personal relationship with him – cultivate it!
Trust in Yahweh and do good. Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Yes, delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the petitions of your heart.– Psalm 37:3-4 (REV)
So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, continue to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,– Philippians 2:12-13 (REV)
for it is God who is working in you both to want to do, and to do, his good pleasure.
As we stay tight with Him, He gives us the desires that ignite our souls and the fire to pursue and dive into them!
Especially in trying times like these, we have a unique opportunity to bring His love and power to bear. I don’t think it’s possible to overstate the importance of keeping our eyes riveted on Him, our ears to His lips, and our feet ready to run wherever He would call us.
A note to the many parents and other caregivers who have recently been thrust into the role of homeschool instructor, bear in mind that God is just as invested in what happens in your “classroom”, much of which will affect what happens in theirs. Some of my most treasured homeschooling memories are of impromptu nature walks, Bible study on a blanket in the front yard, and cancelling afternoon classes for sledding or a trip to the park. I think my kids would agree! With the Lord directing your steps, you have the opportunity the create memories that will shape the rest of their lives!
