What does the Bible say about Demons?

The Bible says the demons are real and they are opposing God’s will.

Ephesians 6:12 tells us that in life, there are struggles against “spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”Demons were once angels of God who sided with Satan in a rebellion that took place in heaven (Isaiah 14, Ezekiel 28). Their existence and how they worked were not revealed through the Old Testament writings. At that time, people knew there were evil spirits, but they believed they were sent from God. We can see this in 1 Samuel 16:14: “Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lordtormented him.” This ignorance was corrected when Jesus Christ ministered on earth. 1 John 3:8reveals that “the devil has been sinning from the beginning,”and that “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

Clearly, there is evil in the world, but God is not the source of that evil. Scripture says that “God is just”(2 Thess. 1:6), and that “God is love”(1 John 4:8). The Bible also tells us that “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil” (Acts 10:38).If sickness came from God, then there would be no reason for Jesus to heal those who were sick. Jesus said in John 6:38 “I have come down from heaven not to do my willbut to do the will of him who sent me.”

Like Jesus, Christians are also anointed with the gift of holy spirit. Along with that gift comes the spiritual abilities listed in 1 Corinthians 12:8-11. One of them is called “discerning of spirits,”which involves God or Jesus revealing information about the presence or non-presence of spirits (including the holy spirit, angels, or demons), sometimes including the identity of demons present and whether or not they may be cast out, and providing the power to do so. God does not want us ignorant of spiritual matters (1 Cor. 12:1)regarding demons and their work.

It’s important for Christians to know the source of good and evil and to educate themselves about demons. The link below is to ten articles on this subject:

  1. So the writer of 1 Samuel was in error in Ch 16? Please explain…

  2. Perfect timing as has been many times before. We enjoy all the wonderful promises God has placed for us, its important to understand this and our tools to not only help our own selves when under attack but to notice them happening to each other and to learn how to fight, encourage and be winners.. We r in a win win situation as we know our fate, however while we r here on this earth we can still enjoy his promises now even if we r under attack by having joy that comes with victory. Fighting is not a game, those empowered and understand must fight for others, standing on the truth we know. This is why I believe salvation is made so easy, cuz Jesus prayed for our help before he left us. Our Power is from on high, and we must train ourselves to use the right tools and be wise.

  3. It’s terrific how so much is packed into these teachings. As I have the attention span of a very nervous gnat, this is greatly appreciated.
