(653 Reads)
Our on-going Bible translation project is called the Revised English Version® (REV®). We call it the REV because we are presenting a revised version of earlier English versions, primarily the American Standard Version of 1901 (ASV), which we have used as the base text for our work, modifying it when we feel it is appropriate.

Understanding the Patron-Client Relationship in the Bible [Old Testament]
(1895 Reads)
One of the most difficult aspects of Bible study is understanding the text in the way that a person living at the time the Bible was written would understand it. We can use the model of a stage play to teach us how to better interpret the Bible. Let’s say we travel to England to see Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, played, not in American English with modern phrases and modern adaptations...

Which parts of the Bible are written to you? 1 Cor.10:32 Jews, Gentiles, Church
(6861 Reads)
"What does the Bible say?" That is always the "bottom line," but the answer must be understood in light of TO WHOM the Bible is speaking. Scripture says that in the spectrum of human history, there are three, and only three, basic groups of people: "Jews, Gentiles, and the Church of God" (1 Cor. 10:32). Each part of God's Word is written to one (and sometimes more than one) of those categories...

Figure of Speech: Metonymy in the Bible. The exchange of nouns or verbs
(2242 Reads)
There is no question that the Bible is replete with examples of God acting in ways that seem to contradict His loving nature, not to mention offend our sense of decency, justice and common sense. These instances must be carefully analyzed and weighed against the whole of the biblical revelation, as well as compared to all the clear scriptures that reveal God’s essential goodness, fairness and love.

How does a Dispensational View of Scripture help to Resolve Bible Contradictions
(1700 Reads)
We believe that many theological arguments could be settled, and many apparent “contradictions” resolved, if the truth of administrations were more widely understood. Carefully reading the Bible shows many changes in the way God has related to mankind. There have been changes in sacrifices, the time and place of worship, dietary restrictions, financial giving, etc. The list is extensive.

How does the Administrational view help you understand the Bible [Scripture]?
(1741 Reads)
One way to see this “big picture” from an administrational perspective is to employ a metaphor. Let us liken God to a playwright who has written the story of redemption in the form of a dramatic play of several acts. The play is full of interesting characters who make a lot of unforced choices. The plot contains many unexpected twists and turns, conflicts and resolutions as each scene moves the story closer to its “denouement,” or final outcome.

Researching the biblical contradiction between Acts 9:7 and Acts 22:9
(1671 Reads)
In regard to the apparent contradiction between Acts 9:7 and Acts 22:9, the contradiction that occurs in some English versions is caused by a translation error. However, this is a more complicated translation error than most, because in order to correctly translate the word, one must understand some idioms of the Greek language. The Greek root word for “hear” is akouo. Most people who have their own research books, such as lexicons and concordances, can look up only the root word in the Greek, and thus see akouo both in Acts 9 and in Acts 22. There really is no easy way to “solve” this apparent contradiction without a much better understanding of the Greek language...

Bible study principles on how to eliminate apparent contradictions in Scripture
(3712 Reads)
Many Christians agree that the Word of God is “the Truth.” Yet from one Bible come thousands of differing interpretations about exactly what “the Truth” is. It was never God’s intention that people read the same document and come away with different ideas about what it is saying. God wants us all to be likeminded about His Word.
