Death after Life?: Understanding 2 Corinthians 5:6-9, When Does a Christian Enter Heaven
(906 Reads)
As a new Christian, I was very excited because I was reading the Bible and understanding it well, and my enthusiasm was through the roof. I remember one occasion where I was invited to a college football game by another uncle and when he picked me up he noticed I had my new Bible. On any other day I would have thoroughly enjoyed watching the game, but instead (much to my uncle’s annoyance) I read my Bible on and off during the entire game. I just couldn’t get enough.

Death after Life?: The Bible says when you die, you are dead until the Rapture or Resurrection
(3770 Reads)
When a person dies, he is dead, that is, totally without life. A Christian has body, soul, and holy spirit, so we will look at what happens to each of these components if he dies. The body cannot live without the animating life force of the soul, so when the soul is gone, the body is dead. We have all seen lifeless bodies—the body is there but the soul, the life force, is gone.

Death after Life?: Bible Study: The Joy of Hope. Death is not a friend that introduces one to Jesus
(1090 Reads)

“He’s dead.” “She’s dead.” How many millions of human hearts have been torn asunder by those words, spoken by a doctor, a state trooper, or a relative in regard to one’s wife, husband, baby, child, mother, father, brother, sister, or best friend? The thudding finality of the word dead is hard to describe.

Death after Life?: Making the Dead Alive: Translating Sheol as Hades Brings the Dead to Life
(3193 Reads)
The Bible teaches that when a person dies he is dead in every way. His body is dead, and his soul and spirit die also. He is not alive in any form, in heaven or elsewhere. The human body cannot live without a soul, and the soul and spirit cannot live apart from a body. A “person” is an integrated whole. God has designed us so that our parts work in a totally integrated way, and not by themselves. This is one reason why the majority of the uses of “soul” in the Bible do not mean “soul” in the sense of the life force of the body, but rather the entire person.

No doubt you have heard it said that a good way to live is by doing whatever you do as if it were the last time you would ever do it. In light of how precious, and fragile, life really is, I agree, even though I can’t say that’s always my attitude. Colossians 3:23.24 says it this way...

Death after Life?: Book - The Fire that Consumes: The Biblical Case For Conditional Immortality
(2332 Reads)
The Fire That Consumes is an excellent book that provides a comprehensive look at this controversial subject. As the flyleaf says, the notion of conscious, unending torment for the wicked has long troubled the minds and hearts of many devout Christians. Most have presumed it to be the biblical teaching, and so not subject to question. The Christian Church in general has never...

Death after Life?: What about Matthew 27:52 and 53? Bible Study on the tombs broke open...
(11341 Reads)
I am aware of the truth of God’s Word that when a Christian dies, he is actually dead, and not alive somewhere in an incorporeal form, but awaiting the coming of Jesus Christ to raise him from the dead. Along that line, Matthew 27:52 and 53 (about dead people getting up out of their graves when Jesus died) seem like very strange verses. Can you shed any light on them?

Death after Life?: What is Hell [eternal fire]? Translated Hades, Gehenna [Greek] Hebrew Sheol
(38021 Reads)
If God were trying to use the threat of eternal torment as a deterrent to sin, John 3:16 might read: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not burn forever, but have everlasting life.” And God could have made that plain in many other verses as well. The fact that the Bible simply says “perish” indicates that the unsaved will die, and thus exist no more...

Death after Life?: Luke 23:43: What did Jesus mean? Today, you will be with me in paradise

Luke 23:43
"I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise." Or...
"I tell you the truth today, you will be with me in paradise."
Recognizing this idiom and properly punctuating the verse with the comma after the word “today,” we see that Jesus’ meaning is clearly future, to be fulfilled when he comes again and establishes his kingdom on earth.

Death after Life?: Where Did the Idea Originate that Believers Would Live Forever in Heaven?
(13588 Reads)
After God plainly told Adam that he would “surely die” if he partook of the fruit of the tree of good and evil, the Devil lied and said to Eve, “You will not surely die” (Gen. 3:4). Ever since that time, the Devil has been actively promoting this same lie wherever and whenever possible. Unfortunately, the idea that people continue living on after they die has found a fertile breeding ground in most religions, including orthodox Christianity.

Death after Life?: Book: Is There Death After Life? What is death? graduation, friend, foe, sleep..

After laying the groundwork by answering these questions, the book deals with 14 sections of Scripture commonly used to “prove” that the “dead” are “alive.” With numerous references to other Christian books and magazines, the authors show how Greek philosophers shaped the current “evangelical” doctrine of the immortality of the soul, and they briefly point out how and why the Reformation...

Death after Life?: Consequences of believing Satan's lie. John 8:44 Devil, father of lies. Death is
(4487 Reads)
If the Church fails to change its wholly untenable biblical position that the “dead” are actually “alive,” it will unwittingly continue to play into the hands of spiritualists, adherents of Eastern mysticism and the proponents of the rapidly growing New Age movement, who deny both the significance of Christ’s resurrection and the unique opportunity for everlasting life through faith in his name. It will also continue to offer people a weak and false hope based on paganism, rather than the comforting and satisfying truth of God’s Word.

Death after Life?: Where Are the Dead? In heaven or hell? What does the Bible / Scripture say?

Death after Life?: Bible study: What state of being are the dead? 1 Thess. 4:13 sleep metaphor
(11365 Reads)
As we have seen, the dead are truly dead and in “gravedom.” When their bodies have rotted, they have ceased to exist. But because they “exist” in the memory of God, He remembers them and intends via Jesus Christ to raise them to life. Thus He figuratively refers to their state of being as “sleep.” This clearly implies a future awakening. Because both their body and soul are dead, the term “sleep” has to be a metaphor.

Death after Life?: Will Christians really live forever in Heaven? Where is it? What is heaven like?
(4833 Reads)

The idea of all believers living in "heaven" is, appropriately, nebulous. Why? Because "nebulous" literally means "full of clouds" and in contemporary language means "difficult to grasp." Have you ever looked up every biblical use of the word "heaven"? If you do, you will never find it used to describe anyone's everlasting address. Check for yourself...
