Don't Blame God!: Bible study: John 9:1-3 Man born blind from birth. Greek word hina. Is God...

 |
The question, “Why did this happen?” is often found on the lips of those who witness evil. Such was the case when Jesus and his disciples once encountered a man who had been born blind. The disciples asked whether it was the man’s sin or his parents’ sin that caused his blindness. Jesus said it was neither and healed the man—setting a beautiful example of never blaming the victim but taking action to help those who are hurting. Unfortunately, rather than blame the victim, some people still use this passage to blame God for the man’s blindness, and the way it reads in most versions does make it seem as if God made the man blind for the purpose of healing him.

Don't Blame God!: Understanding Paul's attitude: Suffering afflictions for Christ - Colossians 1:2

Colossians 1:24 Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.
I can tell you that I did not have a clue what that verse meant for years; in fact, I actually was on a translating committee that translated that verse from the Greek and could bring the words over into English, but I still did not know what it meant. It has been a difficult verse because…

[The following article is an edited transcription of our Nov/Dec 1999 bimonthly teaching, You are the Only You God Has.]
You are the only you that God has! You will never have to have the pressure that Jesus had, but guess what? You have the same strength that Jesus had to deal with whatever pressure that you do get because it is Christ in you, figuratively speaking, by way of holy spirit. You have the potential to be like Jesus, to speak like Jesus, to stand in the gap. Today, you are the one (the fellow worker), with Jesus...

Don't Blame God!: God of the Possible [Open View] by Greg Boyd.

The problem of evil, that is, how evil can co-exist with a God who says He is love, is not only one that often tragically affects us personally, but it is also one that has turned countless people away from the Creator, who longs for them to know Him for who He truly is. Given the Christian Church’s traditional answers to the above questions, I think it is safe to assume that even millions of Christians are plagued with doubt as to whether some God-ordained tragedy may befall them. If knowing the truth makes one free, then believing...

[The following article is an edited transcription of our November 2005 Tape/CD of the Month, Job: The Righteous Sufferer by John Schoenheit.]
The book of Job teaches some wonderful lessons. The primary thesis of the book of Job is the thesis of the “righteous sufferer.” Job was a man who did not do anything wrong. When we read about him in the Bible, we learn that he was blameless and upright. He feared God and shunned evil. He was a man who...

Don't Blame God!: Bible: Paul's thorn in the flesh, biblical meaning, understanding 2 Cor. 12:7-10

What was Paul’s “thorn in the flesh”? I have heard Christians say all kinds of things about it, like Paul had an eye problem, or another illness, or even sinful lusts. Furthermore, many say that God gave him this affliction to test him or to keep him humble. What is the truth about it?

Don't Blame God!: Why/ How could a loving God flood the earth killing all those people? Nephilim
(3752 Reads)
|
|
 |
This is not a simple question to answer. Yes, God is love (1 John 4:8 and 16) and God is light and in Him is no darkness (1 John 1:5). In contrast, Scripture says the Devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).
To fully understand the reason why God had to flood the earth, we need to understand what was the depth of the problem that He was facing in order to bring about the redemption of mankind.

Here are two very significant theological statements that too few Christians understand: (1) Life is not a giant bakery. (2) People are not milk cartons.
How many times have you heard people say, when commenting on someone's untimely death (biblically, all death is untimely), "His number was up." Huh? My question is: What number? Read on for more insight...

Don't Blame God!: Is it true that a hurricane [destructive weather] is an act of God?
(2814 Reads)

 |
According to the Bible, wherein God speaks for Himself, hurricanes are acts of the Devil, God’s archenemy, and a fallen world. Ditto for tornadoes, cyclones, floods, famines (from not enough rain), and all other destructive “natural” events, including World Series earthquakes. This is in keeping with Jesus’ statement in John 10:10 that Satan’s goals relative to mankind are to “steal, kill, and destroy.” Is that what hurricanes do? Yes—just ask the residents of Florida about hurricanes Charlie, Frances, and Ivan who are still looking for their houses...

Don't Blame God!: Where is God When Tragedy Strikes? / Why does God allow evil to happen?
(7974 Reads)
|
|
 |
“Why did God allow this to happen?” This is often the question that runs through the minds of family and friends when tragedy occurs. To some, it sounds too hideous to say something like, “God killed your son,” when a child is killed in a car accident. So they euphemistically say that God “allowed” the child to die such a death. But can a logical mind make any distinction between the two?

Don't Blame God!: Book: Don't Blame God! A Biblical Answer to the Problem of Evil, Sin and Sufferi
(2287 Reads)

This book shows biblically that God is not at all to blame, that the cause of all suffering is sin, and it shows whose sin. It shows why Jesus Christ is the fulcrum of history in this regard, and resolves the seemingly apparent contradiction between the nature of the Old Testament God and that of the New Testament God, which, of course are the same changeless God.

How sad that so many Christian people also attribute to God these traumatic occurrences, as well as accidents, persecution, disease and death. One reason they do is because other sincere but misinformed Christians have failed to understand God’s wonderful Word, and have thus distorted it. These erroneous teachings have not only wounded people emotionally, but also...

Don't Blame God!: Ezekiel 28:12-15, Isaiah 14:13,14 Sin of Lucifer [The Devil] / Origin of Evil

Making Lucifer “the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty” was an expression of God’s magnanimity, and to His credit. Lucifer should have been filled with thanksgiving and praise for his Creator, and eager to serve Him in response to God’s blessings. Instead, pride in his own greatness fueled his desire for supremacy. All he ever said was, “I love Lucifer.” His pride finally drove him to attempt to usurp God’s ultimate authority.

For God, the righteous end He will bring to pass cannot justify any unrighteous means. He will never do evil so that good may come. So the next time you hear a Christian who has been afflicted by some sickness or tragedy tell how this was God’s way of testing him, reproving him or helping him grow in faith, you can tell him the truth that it was not God who afflicted him, and that God is still with him to help him...

Don't Blame God!: Literal or Figurative? E.W. Bullinger, British Bible scholar identified figures.

 |
Speaking about the written Word of God, Jesus Christ said, “Thy Word is truth” (John 17:17). When it comes to spiritual things beyond the realm of man’s five senses, the Word of God is the only credible witness. In stark contrast to the vague, groundless theories and speculations originating in the minds of men, God, the Author of life, presents clear, straightforward answers to man’s most pressing questions. Thus we must diligently look into God’s Word, the literature of eternity, and let Him speak for Himself about the deep issues of life, such as evil, sin and suffering.

In understanding God’s dealings with men, we must see that Jesus Christ is the fulcrum of history. His life, death, resurrection, ascension and exaltation as Lord changed a number of things relative to the way in which God dealt with mankind. One thing that did not change from the Old Testament to the New Testament is that God never does evil, nor does He send suffering to those who love Him.

Don't Blame God!: Jesus Christ lifted veil but Christians still believe Old Testament about God

A major problem with “orthodox” Christian thinking today is that so many Christians believe what the Old Testament says about God without critically examining their beliefs in light of the New Testament. A very well known biblical record that needs to be considered at this point is the book of Job. In Chapters One and Two, “Satan” is referred to as one of the angels who presented himself before the Lord. In light of the New Testament, we today realize that “Satan” is one of the names Scripture gives to the Devil, but the Hebrew word for “Satan” (as in the book of Job) simply means “accuser.” Those in the Old Testament thought that “Satan” was only an accusing spirit. They had no concept of him as the mighty spiritual enemy he is...

Satan is a parasite and a counterfeiter. Thus he and his purposes are actually defined by a proper understanding of God and His purposes. Satan’s character and his purposes are diametrically opposed to God’s. The Devil especially tries to undermine man’s perception of God’s goodness by afflicting the righteous while prospering the ungodly.

Although Satan is “the god of this age,” he does not have carte blanche to afflict God’s people. The more precisely we as believers obey God, the more difficult it is for the Devil to succeed in ruining our lives. Sections of Scripture like Psalm 91 make it plain that the effectiveness of God’s protection of us is in large part proportional to our “dwelling in the secret place of the Most High” and “abiding in the shadow of the Almighty.”

Don't Blame God!: Does God use people? Sending suffering? Then what's the Devil doing?

We must be careful in what we say about God so we do not misrepresent Him. For example, many Christians talk about how God “used” them. We think most Christians who say things like that actually mean that they chose to respond to God’s working in them, but the phrase itself can communicate something that is not true. God never “uses” people, in the sense that He overrides our freedom...

 |
How does a godly father deal with his children? Loving each one with the same degree of fervent love, he recognizes their differences in age, ability and experience. First he instructs each child as to how to do a certain thing. Then he tests him by asking him to do it. If the child disobeys or does it wrong, he corrects him. When the child gets it right, the father rewards him appropriately and in light of the “big picture” of the whole family. This process is known as “discipline,” and it is exactly how God our Father works with us.
