The Devil: Why did God flood the earth / who are the Nephilim [Sons of God] in Genesis 6

Who are the Nephilim in Genesis Chapter 6?
There is a lot of confusion and misunderstanding in the Church about the "sons of God" mentioned in Genesis chapter 6. The Bible refers to their offspring as the Nephilim. We feel the best way to handle this question is to post a transcription of an audio teaching that we did on this subject.
We ask for your patience, as this is a long research article that will tie together many difficult sections of Scripture. Some of the verses covered are: Jude 1:6-7 (Angels who abandoned their home), 2 Peter 2:4 (Angels sent to prison), and 1 Peter 3:18-20 (Jesus went and preached to the spirits in prison). The subject of why God had to bring about the Flood and destroy all the people of that day is also handled.

The Devil: John 1:17, 18 Jesus lifted the veil, revealing [declared] God in a new light

A major problem with “orthodox” Christian thinking today is that so many Christians believe what the Old Testament says about God without critically examining their beliefs in light of the New Testament. Is the Old Testament literally correct: Does God kill believers? Does God send evil spirits to torment people? Does God cause sickness and disease? The answer to each question...

The Devil: Bible study verses: theology of suffering book of Job. Thesis righteous sufferer

[The following article is an edited transcription of our November 2005 Tape/CD of the Month, Job: The Righteous Sufferer by John Schoenheit.]
The book of Job teaches some wonderful lessons. The primary thesis of the book of Job is the thesis of the “righteous sufferer.” Job was a man who did not do anything wrong. When we read about him in the Bible, we learn that he was blameless and upright. He feared God and shunned evil. He was a man who...

The Devil: Bible study Sin of Lucifer [Devil] Origin of Evil. How did Lucifer conceive evil

Making Lucifer “the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty” was an expression of God’s magnanimity, and to His credit. Lucifer should have been filled with thanksgiving and praise for his Creator, and eager to serve Him in response to God’s blessings. Instead, pride in his own greatness fueled his desire for supremacy. All he ever said was, “I love Lucifer.” His pride finally drove him to attempt to usurp God’s ultimate authority.

The Devil: What Can We Learn from the Bible About the Devil?
(10197 Reads)

There is quite a bit of information that we can glean from the Bible about the Devil. Although there is a lot of folklore and legend about evil beings passed down through the ages in many cultures, we believe that God’s Word gives the best and most accurate information concerning him. We can learn about this spiritual creature from the Bible in two different manners...

The Devil: Satan's [Devil's] Opposition. Undermines man’s perception of God’s goodness
(2676 Reads)

Satan is a parasite and a counterfeiter. Thus he and his purposes are actually defined by a proper understanding of God and His purposes. Satan’s character and his purposes are diametrically opposed to God’s. The Devil especially tries to undermine man’s perception of God’s goodness by afflicting the righteous while prospering the ungodly.

The Devil: Satan [The Devil, Lucifer] started as a star. He began his privileged existence
(5577 Reads)

Let us now look at the privileged position in which Lucifer began his existence, because understanding his relationship with God and the manner in which he lost it will help us appreciate Jesus Christ and his road to glory. Whereas Jesus began his earthly life in humility and ended it in ignominy, Satan began in glory and will end in ashes. His downfall was his fatally-flawed decision to exalt himself to an even higher position than he was already given—just like God.

The Devil: Must Satan ask God's permission to do evil? What the Bible [book of Job] says
(4209 Reads)

A very well known biblical record that needs to be considered at this point is the book of Job. In Chapters One and Two, "Satan” is referred to as one of the angels who presented himself before the Lord. In light of the New Testament, we today realize that “Satan” is one of the names Scripture gives to the Devil, but the Hebrew word for “Satan” (as in the book of Job) simply means “accuser.” Those in the Old Testament thought that “Satan” was only an accusing spirit. They had no concept of him as the mighty spiritual enemy he is...
