Becoming Like Christ 2

Courageous through Christ’s love, cure for cowardice, Bible     (189 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 It happens quite often that when I am studying God’s Word, I notice something for the first time, even if it is a section of Scripture I have read hundreds of times before! This is what happened today as I was reading Ephesians Chapter 3. I was basking in the great truths of being part of the one Body of Christ, heirs together with Israel and sharers in the promise in Christ Jesus, and that God’s intent was that now through the church His manifold wisdom would be made known to rulers and authorities in heavenly realms! Also according to God’s eternal purpose we can all approach God with freedom and confidence because of what God accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. Then verse 13 jumped off the page at me! “I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my suffering for you, which is your glory.” I thought “How could they be discouraged after hearing such powerful, awesome revelation about what they now have in Christ?!” Then the thought hit me: “Am I ever discouraged?” I decided to look up the word translated “discouraged” and it is in fact more than just feeling like giving up; it is to actually lose your courage, to become a coward. Next question: “Are you ever afraid to stand up for the Truth?”

Fundamental Christian disciplines / practices: pray, study, give, witness...     (2250 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 The other day I (Dan Gallagher) was thinking about what it means to be a disciple of Christ, and was reminded of my martial arts experience. For a number of years I studied several martial arts styles, and no matter how much I knew, or how long I had studied, or how proficient I became, we always started each training session with a warm up where we practiced the basics of blocking, kicking, punching, and other fundamental moves. Similarly, no matter how long we have stood for Christ, no matter how much we know, or how proficient we become in our calling, we should stay grounded in the basics of discipleship.

Living in the Yes! True joy comes from within, it is up to you. Hebrews 12:1-3     (657 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 Do you think that people who know you would describe you as a joyful person? I guess you could answer that question by thinking about what joy is and whether or not you show it. I assert that laughter is a sound of joy, so another way to measure your joy is by how much you laugh, or at least by how much you smile, for a smile is a mini-laugh, a manifestation of joy held in your heart (Prov. 15:13).

Finding True Happiness. 1 Timothy 6:6 godliness with contentment, great gain     (1542 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 If you took a poll of everyone on earth and asked them what they want out of life, a large percentage would say, “I just want to be happy.” That is not astounding in itself, but what is astounding is that only a small percentage of them are happy. You would think that with so many people seeking a specific goal, a large percentage of them would achieve it, but that is not the case with happiness.

Dying to Self: Feet First. Romans 6 We are called to die to self     (1670 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 Humility is a foundational character trait found in those who exemplify godliness and obedience, and numerous Old and New Testament believers manifest it. Humility, as defined by Webster’s Dictionary, includes the quality of being “low,” that is “low” in our minds, which, interestingly, has often played out in history by people getting “low” to the ground; certainly lower than the one to whom they were demonstrating humility.

Treasure in Heaven & Peace on Earth [Matthew 6:19-21 and Proverbs 13:7]     (1161 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 I think it’s great that our culture takes time to celebrate the Lord’s birth in December. I’m thankful for anytime we spend celebrating Christ! Yet, as I’ve gotten older—old enough to take my eyes away from the presents under the tree and look around a bit...

Peace on Earth? The Bible says that there will be no “peace on earth” until.     (1975 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 As we enter this “holiday” season, during which we in the USA celebrate our national day of Thanksgiving and Christians around the world celebrate Christmas, one of the messages proclaimed by countless Christmas cards is “Peace on Earth.” And what an indescribably wonderful vision that is.

Failing Forward: Turning Mistakes into Stepping Stones to Success     (4550 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 Failure is a lot more common than success. If people do not know how to fail properly and if they do not know how to fail forward, then they will never be able to reap the success that they really desire. You can be a winner in many ways, but you can only be a loser in one way—that is to fail and not look beyond the failure...

Don't Be Scared. Many times we have fears without ever addressing them.     (1156 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 Many of us have felt as though we had to measure up, especially those of us who were raised in faith-based families. It is actually a very natural thing to try to do what we think we are supposed to do and be what others want us to be. However, this is unhealthy if we allow it to determine our self worth. For me...

Fear: Face, Explore, Accept, Respond. A look at healthy and unhealthy fear.     (1643 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 “Unhealthy” fear? Does that mean there is a healthy fear? Yes. It is healthy to fear, insofar as fear is a signal of true danger, a perception of something in our environment or circumstances that is or could be dangerous. Unhealthy fear is fear that is unwarranted by the circumstances, and that comes instead from our memory...

For the joy that was set before him [Hebrews 12:2 Jesus the author and finisher]     (1925 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 What was Jesus praying so hard for? What was he agonizing about in the garden? He wanted God to save him from death. He wanted to obey God, but he didn't want to die. Jesus made it clear in his prayer that if there was no change in God's plan for him, he would carry out God's will; but he also prayed that if it were possible, "this cup" would pass from him...

Getting in Touch with Jesus [Philippians 3:10 I want to know Christ]     (2863 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 If we don't get in touch with the reality of the sin that dwells in us, we won't realize our absolute and constant need for the Lord, and we won't press through whatever stands between us and him. Then we will very likely live in a dream world, and others around us will suffer the consequences of our detachment from reality. The problem is that getting in touch with such reality hurts...

Bible Study on Growth vs. Comfort     (2436 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 Etymologically, “humiliation” is technically the state of being humbled, and is therefore a good thing, but it has acquired a negative meaning that connotes harm rather than benefit. In today’s English, even saying that someone was “humbled” can have a negative meaning. But if you look up the verb, “to humble,” you’ll find something like: “to destroy the power, independence, or prestige of something.” Hey, that could be either good or bad, depending upon what that “something” is. If it is self, great! Because when we are totally dependent upon God...

Truth in the Inner Parts [Psalm 51:6]. A biblical study on making godly choices.     (2188 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 Then when the sin in you raises its ugly head and temporarily prevails in you, which it will do at times, you will not respond by thinking that you are a worthless piece of garbage who could never do anything for God. No, you will understand that you are a righteous child of God with a disgusting sin nature that is the cause of ungodly behavior. You will recognize how its strategy beat you this time and learn how to win by making the right choice next time. You will boldly go to your loving heavenly Father for forgiveness, knowing that it is yours for the asking.

Magnifying God's Love For You. 1 Peter 5:7 He cares for you.     (2317 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 So then, how can I see God bigger? Yes, Jesus did say that if we have seen him, we have seen the Father, so it is imperative to press into intimate fellowship with the Lord. But for now, let us think about the biblical exhortation to magnify God. Have you ever thought about what that means? Sometimes I think that my God is too small. Huh? Well, in terms of Him being able to do for me, and for others via me, all He longs to do, He is only as big as I “see,” i.e., understand Him, and I’ll trust Him only that much. I want to see God as big as I possibly can, so that I have as much F-A-I-T-H (Fabulous Adventures In Trusting Him) as possible.

Carefree - fruitful and unfruitful thinking. 1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety     (2671 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 So when you find yourself thinking and rethinking thoughts that distract you from what's true, stop. Cast them over to your heavenly Father. Replace those thoughts with the "excellent and praiseworthy." This takes some real conscious effort, but the end result is peace. When you give your distractions to God, you will experience...

Taking down the High Places. 1 John 5:21 Children, keep yourselves from idols     (2743 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 One of the subjects consistently addressed throughout the Bible is idolatry.      God's Gift of Righteousness. Titus 3:5, Romans 5:17, Romans 3:20-25     (2154 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 The purpose of this short study is to show from Scripture that every Christian is righteous before God. Biblically, righteousness is being “right” with God. When a person is “righteous,” he or she is “innocent,” “faultless,” or “not guilty” before God. The righteous person is “right” with God...

To Contend without being Contentious. Philippians 1:15-16, James 3:14-16     (1605 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 It certainly is possible to have the truth and be contentious about it. I have at times certainly been that way in my zeal for what I have believed to be the truth. In fact, I have learned much in the past few years about maintaining my convictions while lovingly engaging in dialogue with contentious people. It is my experience, however, that those who oppose the truth...

A Godly Way To Handle Christian Persecution. 2 Timothy 3:12, Matthew 5:10     (2083 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 There is nothing more certain than the fact that we will face adversity. Some of this will be natural. For example, if we want to learn to hang glide or do technical mountain climbing, we will find gravity to be a serious adversary. But this is not a personal thing. Gravity adversely affects everyone who tries to go against it. We understand this, this is not hard to deal with, and we can easily accept it in evaluating the benefits or the consequences of our choices.

Be Strong In Grace. A Bible Study on God's unmerited divine favor. 2 Tim. 2:1     (4146 Reads)
Becoming Like Christ 2 Authors Note: A while back I received an e-mail from an old friend and brother in Christ who I hadn’t spoken to in several years. Among other things, he told me he was seeking to better understand what it means to be “strong in grace,” and that any insight I could impart to him would be greatly appreciated. Not being a believer in the concept of coincidence, I took his contacting me as a call from the Lord speaking to both our hearts...

Can We Really Know God? A Bible Study on Isaiah 55:8. Is God Unknowable?     (2848 Reads)
